LA FUGIDA (The Escape)
For more than thirty years, two Jesuit priests sexually abused children in some of Barcelona's most prestigious schools. When allegations emerged, both were transferred to Bolivia, where the abuse continued.
Lluís Tó, a former director of Barcelona's Sant Ignasi school, was convicted in 1992 of sexually abusing an eight-year-old pupil. Francesc Peris, known as “Xesco”, was a respected priest and teacher at the Jesuits' Casp school, where complaints about his behaviour had also surfaced. Despite their histories, both men were sent to Bolivia by the Society of Jesus.
Based on eight years of investigation by journalist Guillem Sánchez, La Fugida follows the trail of abuse and institutional impunity connecting Barcelona and Cochabamba. Through the testimonies of survivors, relatives, former students, lawyers and members of the Jesuit order, the documentary reconstructs how the two priests were able to continue abusing children across two continents. Decades later, survivors confront the lasting consequences of their experiences and the devastating realization that the men who abused them were allowed to victimize other children thousands of kilometres away.
La Fugida exposes a history of silence, institutional failure and the struggle of survivors for recognition, accountability and justice.
